Bought this as a gift for my wife. As a mission style piece, the color is much lighter than I would associate with standard mission furniture. The unit is quite heavy, so there is no question that it is of solid wood construction. I had to take the hinges off, drill new holes, and reattach the door because it did not line up properly. It still doesn't, but that is because it is out of square. I think it looks ok on our wall, but I feel that I could have found a better piece elsewhere.
